A remarkable collection of 20th and 21st century design and applied arts, The Stradling Collection holds close to 2000 items.

A jewel in Bristol's cultural crown, The Stradling Collection is a remarkable collection of post-war craft and design, boasting almost 2000 items, from ceramics to furniture.

A special collection built with a unique vision

The collection was created by Ken Stradling MBE, who had an established career as a buyer at the Bristol Guild from 1948. During his 60-year career, he collected many items that he sold, and so the collection today reflects his unique vision which shaped design tastes and trends from this innovative era. Stradling's eye for design introduced new and exciting makers from Britain, Scandinavia and Eastern Europe to the people of Bristol.

Exhibitions that celebrate creativity and craftmanship

Their gallery runs a programme of exhibitions, highlighting items in the collection while celebrating the creativity and craftmanship of makers. Work by local schools, colleges and universities in response to the collection are also exhibited. Don't miss their curator-led tours, which can be booked in advance for a fee.
