Set in one of the UK's best-preserved Victorian herring curing works, Time and Tide Museum tells the story of Great Yarmouth from Ice Age to present day.

The museum is centred around Great Yarmouth's rich maritime heritage and its development as a popular seaside resort. Displays explore the history of the town and East Anglia's relationship with maritime Europe via fascinating artifacts and interactive exhibits.

Historic building

The original Tower Fish Curing Works was built c.1850. After its closure in 1988 and an extensive redevelopment project in the 1990s, the site reopened as a museum in 2004. Step back in time and experience the heady atmosphere of a bustling 1950s fish wharf. Learn about the herring industry's significance to Great Yarmouth's economy and culture.

Maritime history

Dive into the town's maritime heritage through interactive exhibits, films, and artefacts including nautical instruments, fishing equipment, and local historical documents. Explore the stories of local fishermen, sailors, and pirates. See a typical 'Row' from 1913, where visitors can see inside the homes of a local fisherman and his neighbours.

Fun for all ages

The museum hosts temporary exhibitions and talks and offers a variety of activities, including hands-on displays, games, puzzles, free audio guides, film shows and children's activities, making it a great destination for all ages.
