Caversham Bridge, near Reading

William Havell, 1810–1814

William Havell, who was born in Reading, painted several versions of this subject, but this view differs from the others in having a much wider field of vision. It includes all the spans of the bridge, and is of considerable local topographical interest. Some of the buildings, such as the gazebo in the lower left foreground and the inn on the right bank of the river, can still be identified.
