Portraits of Abraham and Mabella Acworth
Thomas Hudson, 1745
These portraits were painted at the time of the Acworths' marriage, and are particularly good examples of Hudson's work. Abraham Acworth (1719-1781) was named after his uncle, Abraham Ball, from whom he inherited a considerable fortune in 1741, and he became a Clerk to the Exchequer. In 1745 he married Margaretta Mabella Buckeridge, then aged nineteen, the eldest daughter of his uncle Abraham's widow by a former marriage and herself an heiress.
