Cookie policy and settings
Our website uses cookies, as almost all websites do. A cookie is a small file that's placed on your device when you browse websites.
Cookies can either be "persistent" or "session" cookies.
A "persistent" cookie will be stored by a web browser, and remains valid until its expiry date or you delete it.
A "session" cookie will expire at the end of your "session", when you close your web browser.
Why does Art Fund use cookies?
Cookies help us to:
Make our websites work as you'd expect, so you can log in or make purchases
Save you needing to log in every time you visit our websites
Improve the speed and security of our websites
Measure how our websites are used so we can improve them
Ensure our advertising is as relevant and cost-effective as possible
Art Fund categorises cookies into three types: Functional, Analytics & performance, and Marketing. We have explained how and why we used these types of cookies in more detail below.
Which cookies does Art Fund use?
1. Functional
These cookies are necessary for our websites to operate. They enable you to use features like logging in, filling in a form or buying a National Art Pass. These cookies can't be turned off unless you disable all cookies in your browser. Find out more about how to do this. If you do this, the parts of our websites that need these cookies to function won't work.
Services that set functional cookies on Art Fund websites are:
Stripe, which processes payments on our website
Cloudfront, which verifies if users are genuine and not bots to keep our site secure
Gears, which sends the information we have about museums and galleries from our database to our websites
We also place functional cookies to help the website remember:
your cookie preferences
if you've logged in or not
which products you have added to your basket
which forms you have completed
if you've shared your location with us
any promo or referral codes you have used
your Art Profile quiz results before you create an account
your email address if you are resetting your password
2. Analytics & performance
These cookies allow us to count how many people use our websites and where they come from, so we can measure and improve the performance of our websites. They help tell us which pages are the most and least popular. They also tell us how people use our website and assess if their experience is good or bad. All the information these cookies collect is aggregated and kept anonymous.
If you don't allow these cookies, we won't know if or when you've visited our site, which makes it harder for us to understand how well it's working.
Services that set analytics & performance cookies on Art Fund websites are:
Google Analytics, which helps us count the amount of people using our website, and how they use it
Hotjar, which helps us track and analyse how people use our website
3. Marketing
These cookies may be set by our advertising partners. They allow them to build a profile of your interests based on your device's browsing history and behaviour. This helps make our marketing spend on websites more efficient by telling us who we can target.
These cookies don't directly store personal information, but they help other websites identify your browser and device.
If you don't allow these cookies, you will generally see less targeted advertising. It will not mean you see no adverts.
Services that set marketing cookies on Art Fund websites are:
FullStory, which helps us track and analyse how people use our website
Facebook and Instagram, which helps us target adverts on Facebook and Instagram
TikTok and Quantcast, which help us track performance of adverts
Google Doubleclick, which helps us target adverts across Google's advertising network
dotdigital, which helps us understand if people who receive emails from us use our website
How do I change my cookie settings?
If you aren't sure which cookies you've accepted, or would like to change your cookie settings, you can view and change your settings using the Manage my Cookies button.
Changing your browser cookie settings will not delete any existing cookies - it will only change which ones are placed in the future. To do that, you will need to delete your cookies. There's information on how to do this at the bottom of this page.
Please note that you can only disable the Functional cookies in your browser settings. Blocking these cookies will mean you can’t use all the features on our sites, such as buying a National Art Pass.
Third-party cookies
Third-party cookies are set by someone other than the owner of the website you’re visiting.
Some of our pages contain content from other sites like YouTube, which may set their own cookies. For example, if you watch a YouTube video on our website, this may affect your video recommendations next time you use YouTube.
We have no control over third-party cookies. You can find out how to turn them off in your browser below.
Turn off cookies in your browser
It's possible to stop your browser from accepting cookies by changing your browser’s cookie settings. We've included some links explaining how to do this below. These settings can also be found in the “options”, "settings" or “preferences” menu of your browser.
