Traditional Japanese aesthetics meet the latest digital technology as renowned designer Sudo Reiko pushes the boundaries of textile production.
Sudo Reiko has been the design director of the Japanese textile firm NUNO for the last 30 years. She is particularly known for championing new methods of sustainable manufacturing and weaving traditional Japanese crafting together with unconventional materials and techniques.
This exhibition sees Reiko’s designs come to Edinburgh for the first time and explores many of her unique techniques, from washi dyeing to chemical lace embroidery. Five large-scale installations will combine textiles, art projections, sketches and design protypes, demonstrating the unique juxtaposition of traditional and contemporary that Sudo Reiko is so famous for.
