The New Art Gallery Walsall holds collections of European art, from Dutch marine scenes and British landscapes to French Impressionism and Victorian narrative painting.
Known for its innovative exhibitions and impressive collection, this contemporary gallery in the West Midlands is a must-visit for art enthusiasts. Housed in a world-class building, which opened in 2000, The New Art Gallery Walsall interprets and presents historic, modern and contemporary art in thought-provoking ways.
The Garman Ryan Collection
In addition to the gallery’s permanent collection of art spanning centuries and disciplines, a large number of works were gifted to the people of Walsall by Lady Kathleen Garman, widow of renowned sculptor Jacob Epstein, who had grown up in the Midlands. Highlights include pieces by European masters such as Constable, Degas, Matisse, Monet, Picasso and Van Gogh, as well as modern artists such as the aforementioned Epstein, Lucian Freud, Theo Garman and Matthew Smith.
Temporary exhibitions
A changing exhibition programme on Floors 3 and 4 focuses on the contemporary visual arts, presenting both solo and group shows and showcasing local and international artists. Floor 4 is also where you will find the Roof Terrace.
