Discover 500 years of Black music in Britain
Beginning with Tudor musician John Blanke and moving to the present with contemporary DJ Nia Archives, Beyond the Bassline is the first major exhibition to document 500 years of Black music in Britain.
Journeying through jazz, reggae, jungle and afroswing, the exhibition spotlights iconic venues like The Reno in Manchester and Scottish club night The Reggae Klub, alongside carnivals, community centres and record shops across the country. A range of sound recording formats, instruments and audio equipment will be on display alongside posters, costumes and photographs.
