Exploring the legacy of Pop-adjacent feminist sculptor.
Having trained as a painter, Nicola L. made an abrupt departure from the constraints of the medium in the 1960s and began making sculptures and performances that were inspired by skin and intended as a political gesture.
Camden Art Centre’s exhibition, I Am The Last Woman Object, offers a fresh look at the practice of Nicola L., an artist often discussed in relation to Pop Art, Nouveau Realism, Feminism and design. Her multidisciplinary practice explores questions of cosmology, environmental concerns and activism.
