This district museum unites two formerly separate collections from Letchworth and Hitchin venues.
Combining the collections of the former Letchworth and Hitchin museums, North Hertfordshire Museum museum boasts a diverse array of artefacts that bring the past to life. Whether you're interested in local archaeology, art, or the stories of everyday people, the museum's collection will likely have something to pique your interest.
Hertfordshire history
The museum has an exhibition space for regularly changing exhibits, and three permanent galleries. The Discovering North Hertfordshire Gallery focuses on the history of the district from the geological past to the present day.
The Living in North Hertfordshire Gallery shows how local people’s lives have changed over thousands of years. The Terrace Gallery houses a diverse collection, focusing mainly on people, including items from the art collections and animations of local folklore tales.
The Football Collection
The collection, numbering almost 1000 objects, was donated to the North Hertfordshire Museum Service during the 1980s. Key objects are on show in a large display case in the Terrace Gallery, including The Aubrey Cup and Stanley Matthew’s football boots.
A place for learning and fun
In addition to its permanent and temporary exhibitions, the museum often hosts events and workshops. These might include talks by local historians, family-friendly craft activities, or interactive displays. The museum also has a shop and cafe.
