Tredegar House is one of the finest Restoration period buildings in Wales, with beautiful formal gardens in 90 acres of parkland.

One of the most significant late 17th-century houses in the UK, Tredegar House, Gardens and Park in Newport offers a delightful blend of history, nature, and family-friendly activities. Whether you're interested in exploring the historic mansion, enjoying the outdoors, or learning about local history, there's something for everyone to enjoy at this popular National Trust venue.

Explore the historic house

Step back in time and discover the grandeur of Tredegar House. Admire the ornate plasterwork, grand staircases, and beautifully preserved period rooms such as the grand Gilt Room, used for entertaining, and the 1930s bedrooms. Below stairs you will find the Great Kitchen, where feasts were prepared by the domestic staff.

Wander the grounds

Enjoy the serene beauty of the gardens, which include the Orchard Garden, the Cedar Garden with its 250-year-old Cedar of Lebanon tree, and the Orangery Garden. Discover hidden paths, charming ponds, and a parkland teeming with wildlife.

Family activities

Inside the house you can find dressing up areas, and an interactive puppet display in the New Hall. Grab a Creative Kit for budding artists, or an Explorer Backpack for young nature enthusiasts. The park features a dedicated play area for children, with swings, slides, and climbing frames, plus nature trails and hidden gems, such as the monument to a much-loved horse of the first Lord Tredegar.
