With over a million artefacts spanning two million years of human history, the museum offers a captivating journey through time and across continents. From ancient Egyptian mummies to intricate Polynesian carvings, the Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology (MAA) houses a diverse collection that sheds light on human civilisation.

Archeology collection
The museum also houses significant archaeological finds from around the world, such as Roman mosaics, and prehistoric tools. MAA holds one of the finest pre-Columbian collections in Britain, including remarkably preserved early textiles and important prehistoric Arctic materials.

Families can embark on interactive trails, participate in workshops, and engage with hands-on exhibits designed to spark curiosity and imagination. The museum also hosts regular events, lectures, and workshops for adults.
Go digital
Launched in 2022, the Digital Laboratory is a state-of-the-art facility which allows you to explore the museum's collections in-depth through interactive digital displays and virtual reality experiences.
Originally founded in 1884, the museum has been at its current site since 1913. It reopened in May 2012 following refurbishment, and the following year was chosen as a finalist for Art Fund Museum of the Year.
