Be part of history by helping MK Gallery to bring together over 160 works by this pioneering artist.

Laura Knight was a pioneer: the first woman to be elected to be a Royal Academician and the first female artist to be made a Dame of the British Empire. Knight was extremely popular during her lifetime culminating in her largest exhibition, the first for a female artist, at the Royal Academy in 1965.

MK Gallery are planning to stage the largest Laura Knight exhibition since her solo show at the Royal Academy. It’s an ambitious project that would bring together over 160 paintings, drawings, prints and ceramics borrowed from all over the UK. It would provide a rare opportunity to appreciate fully the importance of Knight’s illustrious career.

The Gallery would like there to be a special focus on her contemporary relevance through depictions of women at work, marginalised communities and the role of women artists. The selection of works would reflect Knight’s enduring interest in the everyday activities of people from all walks of life.

This major retrospective exhibition would draw from collections from all over Britain: Dundee to Brighton, Hull to Cardiff, and from a number of major public and private collections as well as previously unseen paintings.

With your support we’ll be able to give Laura Knight the recognition she deserves and the chance to see her incredible work. The funds raised will also go towards vital conservation of some of the works.

We need your help to raise £10,000 to bring together work from across the UK to make this major retrospective happen this autumn at MK Gallery.
