Head and shoulders portrait of Anne Clopton (1612-1641) dressed in black satin with a high lace ruff. Anne was the heir of Lutons Hall, Suffolk and married Simon D'Ewes in 1626, the year this portrait was painted. The portrait could have been commissioned to mark the couple's engagement; the armorials in the upper left are those of D'Ewes impaling Clopton.
