Art Funded by you

Poke

Ron Mueck, 2016

Poke is a work by Ron Mueck made especially for the exhibition ‘Skin: Freud, Mueck and Tunick’, staged at Ferens Art Gallery during Hull’s tenure as UK City of Culture in 2017. Themes of the nude and portraiture are central to the gallery’s permanent collection. Mueck is celebrated for his waxy, uncannily lifelike sculptures of the human form. These sculptures are made all the more unsettling by their use of scale in which the subjects are shrunk or blown-up to improbable sizes.
