This gold verge watch is the first work to have entered the nation's collections through the Art Fund.
Daniel Quare was a celebrated maker of clocks, watches and barometers. He began making quarter-repeating watches around 1680 and was one of the first clockmakers to make the hour and minute hands work as one. Among his most distinguished patrons were James II and William III.
