An embroidered Late Stuart casket in an 18th century case.
The embroidered panels reflect typical 17th century iconography with its choice of religious subjects from the Old and New Testaments and emblematic scenes representing the seasons. The carrying case is covered with 18th century hand-painted wallpaper.
Provenance
According to family tradition the casket was worked by Unis Bourne, wife of Thomas Bourne of Bourne End, Lancashire; by descent through their eldest son John Bourne; by descent to the present owner.
