This exhibition has now closed, find out what else is going on at Firstsite

Playing a vital role in giving visibility to a vast array of emerging artistic talent, Bloomberg New Contemporaries will make its first 2021 pit-stop in Colchester at Museum of the Year winner 2021, Firstsite.

The recurring traveling exhibition specialises in showcasing the work of early career artists, with a track record of encouraging participants to go on to thriving careers. As well as exhibiting their work, the exhibition also provides access to development opportunities, enabling artists to pursue sustainable long-term practices.

This year the line-up includes 75 artists working across sculpture, installation, film, moving image and even video games. All works respond to the topical issues of our current time – highlights include Trouble in the House (2020) by painter and textile artist Lydia Pettit, a two-metre embroidered fabric glove which explores the experiences of living with post-traumatic stress disorder, and painter Noemi Conan’s drawing, Boruta (2021), in which a mundane scene from a roadside collides with Polish mythology.
