Bringing together some of the most iconic images ever taken of the British royal family, the exhibition examines how the art of photography allowed people to gain intimate insight into royal life. From Queen Victoria and Prince Albert’s patronage of photography when it was in its infancy, to personal family portraits of the modern-day royals, the exhibition spans the 19th century to the present day.
Featuring work by legendary photographers including Cecil Beaton, Annie Leibovitz and David Bailey, the exhibition will also present photographs taken by former Kensington Palace resident, Lord Snowdon and intimate images taken by the royal family themselves for a personal perspective on royal life. Particular highlights include a never-before-seen image of Princess Diana by David Bailey and Cecil Beaton’s images of the Queen and Queen Mother that redefined the modern royal portrait.
