Explore the intriguing history of one of the UK’s oldest applied arts organisations, the Royal School of Needlework.

Founded in 1872, the Royal School of Needlework (RSN) had two primary purposes: to preserve the art of hand embroidery and to support women’s independence through work. The exhibition reveals the wonderful world of embroidery as it has developed and changed over the last 150 years.

From surprising collaborations at the height of the Arts and Crafts movement, to royal commissions, contemporary designs and works by RSN students, the exhibition focuses on the organisation’s profound contribution to the world of embroidery.
