Explore 18th century England at Quebec House in Kent, childhood home of war hero General Wolfe, who led Britain to victory at the Battle of Quebec.

Originally named Spiers, the house dates back to the mid-16th century, and has a fascinating connection to a remarkable military figure. Today, Quebec House is owned by the National Trust and welcomes visitors eager to explore its historical significance.

Step inside Quebec House

The National Trust has meticulously recreated the atmosphere of the 18th century. Get an insight into how the family lived in the 1730s, when they rented the house, including Mrs Wolfe’s homemade remedies lining the shelves in the kitchen. Explore various rooms, each thoughtfully furnished and decorated to reflect the period.

Learn about the Battle of Quebec

For those interested in military history, Quebec House features a permanent exhibition housed on the first floor of the Coach House. This exhibition delves into the details of the pivotal Battle of Quebec, a crucial moment in the fight for dominance in North America. Discover more about the strategies employed, the course of the battle itself, and the tragic death of General Wolfe.

Explore the restored garden

The property encompasses a charming 18th-century garden, meticulously maintained to showcase seasonal blooms from the period. A particular highlight is the revived herb and kitchen garden, brought back to life using Mrs Wolfe's own recipe book.

Feed your inner bookworm

Nestled within the old coach house is a delightful second-hand bookshop brimming with pre-loved treasures. Books are donated by volunteers and visitors, all the money raised from the bookshop goes back into maintaining Quebec House.
