One of the best-preserved Bronze Age sites ever discovered in the UK, this talk gives an overview of excavations.

This is a recording-only ticket of an online talk which took place on 6 June 2024.

Part of the events programme alongside the Introducing Must Farm, a Bronze Age settlement exhibition.

Following the publication of the final report on the Must Farm settlement (excavated in 2015-16), hear from the archaeologists and specialists involved in the excavations and post-excavation research to discover the most up-to-date research and theories about the site. The first time all these experts have been brought together in one series, these talks are not to be missed!

An Introduction to the Must Farm Pile-dwelling Settlement Speaker: Dr Chris Wakefield, Cambridge Archaeological Unit

The Must Farm pile-dwelling settlement is one of the best-preserved Bronze Age sites ever discovered in the UK, consisting of stilted roundhouses built above a river channel that burnt down in a catastrophic fire almost 3,000 years ago. This talk provides an overview of the site and the 2015-16 excavations, detailing how archaeologists uncovered the fascinating story of a Late Bronze Age community and pieced together the history of this incredible site.

Chris Wakefield is an archaeologist with Cambridge Archaeological Unit, who led excavations at Must Farm, and Chris has personal experience of digging on site. He also worked as Digital Outreach Coordinator on the groundbreaking public engagement project undertaken at Must Farm.
