Summer Family Fun

9 July - 31 August 2024
Various - Museum opening times 10am - 5pm

Lots of family fun, from pirates and learning about shipwrecks to creative crafting and model making.

The drop in ‘Cracking Creatives’ sessions, which are ideal for ages three years and upwards, run from 1pm – 3.30pm every Tuesday and Saturday until Saturday 31 August.

Activities, which change weekly, are themed around the Museum’s summer exhibition, ‘Shipyard Social’, which explores the social side of Scottish shipyards, and the national art collection.

Families can also follow the new ‘Shipyard Trail’ and seek out all the boats hidden across the Museum.

The popular Titanic Discovery Family Session returns on Saturday 13 July.

From 3pm – 4.30pm, visitors can learn more about RMS Titanic, her crew and that fateful night in the North Atlantic Ocean from local historian Bill Fitzpatrick. Afterwards, everyone can have fun designing and testing their own model boat.

Saturday 10 August sees the return of the Museum’s hugely popular Pirate Day. Everyone can look forward to walking the gangplank for lots of swashbuckling, piratey fun.

All this and the year-round, drop in sessions Little Sea Monsters and the Warhammer Model Making Club continue over the summer.

The music and storytelling session for under fives, Little Sea Monsters, runs from 10.15am to 11am every Thursday.

The Warhammer Model Making Club runs every Saturday from 12noon – 3pm and painting sessions and gaming opportunities are included.

Visitors can also grab a VR headset and dive into a submerged prehistoric landscape and explore the fascinating world of shipwrecks when the Unpath’d Waters touring exhibition comes to the Museum between Monday 22 July and Tuesday 6 August.

Further details on Unpath’d Waters activities, which bring the UK’s maritime heritage to life, can be found on the Museum’s website and social media @scotmaritime.
