This Miniature Painting course is a unique opportunity to dive into the intricate world of miniature art. This workshop is designed for beginners eager to learn the delicate techniques of miniature painting, guiding you step by step through the process.

The workshop will be spread across four sessions, running from October to November. Each session will cover different aspects of the craft, ensuring a comprehensive understanding by the end of the course. Participants will leave with their own unique miniature painting and the knowledge to continue exploring this exquisite art form.

Tutor: With 14 years of dedicated experience as a miniature painter, Quratulain Shams is a graduate of the prestigious National College of Arts in Lahore, Pakistan, where she specialized in this intricate and historically rich art form. Her journey as a fine artist has taken her from Lahore to London, where she now lives and work. Quratulain has exhibited her work in numerous national and international exhibitions, gaining recognition for her mastery of miniature painting.

Course Outline:

Session 1:

Introduction to Miniature Painting, Getting materials ready, Pencil work, surface preparation and transfer.

Session 2:

Pencil shading, Introduction to ‘Siah Qalam’ technique, making the brush, practise.

Session 3:

Making Gouache paint and learning the technique of gouache washes on paper.

Session 4:

Introducing the technique of 'Tapae' (gradation), finishing details and completing your painting.

Additional information

Open to all levels including beginnersPlease bring a notebook/sketchbook

Participants will be able to take away some basic materials which they make (e.g pencils) home with them.
