The Barber Retreat: The Sounds that Surround Us

5 - 26 March 2025
Wednesdays, 2 – 4.30pm
Free to all

A four-session creative sound workshop exclusively for College of Medicine and Health students.

Immerse yourself in sound at this Barber Retreat, a four-session creative workshop designed exclusively for College of Medicine and Health students at the University of Birmingham. This is a wonderful opportunity to take a break from your studies, spark your imagination, and deepen your connection with the world around you.

Join musician Dan Cippico of Wildforms as he guides you through the art of field recording and deep listening. Whether it's the gentle rustling of leaves or the vibrant buzz of city life, you'll learn how to capture the essence of your surroundings. You'll record beautiful and intriguing sounds on campus to create a collective digital LP—a playful, experimental, and mindful project that captures our collective sonic environment.

The sessions are designed as a series, and your booking applies to all four workshops. They will take place in person at the Barber Institute of Fine Arts on these dates:

  • Wednesday 5 March, 2pm – 4.30pm

  • Wednesday 12 March, 2pm – 4.30pm

  • Wednesday 19 March, 2pm – 4.30pm

  • Wednesday 26 March, 2pm – 4.30pm

You don't need any previous musical or music technology experience—just come ready to explore and let your sonic creativity flow.
