Lecture

The archaeological excavations at Greenside, Rosemarkie - Mary Peteranna

An account of the archaeological excavation and findings at Greenside in Rosemarkie.

The talk will describe the findings at the Greenside site in Rosemarkie, which included an important bronze age metalwork hoard. The hoard block itself is being excavated in the laboratory by GUARD, an archaeology company based in Glasgow, and will be the subject of a later talk in our programme on 25th September. Also included are the organisation, logistics and what might be called the politics of the excavation, which are not always covered in such presentations and which our audience will, we are sure, find interesting as background.

The Speaker, Mary, is Associate Director of the commercial archaeology company AOC Archaeology and manages the local office and team of field archaeologists based at Rosehaugh, near Avoch. The company undertook the survey work and subsequent excavations ahead of the housing development at Greenside in Rosemarkie in recent years. Mary directed the excavations.
