From the 1930s to 1980s Barfield artists created many murals now sadly destroyed but surviving studies show what once existed
Alan Powers, curator with Neil Jennings of the spring 2025 Fry Gallery exhibition 'Bardfield Murals' and author of the accompanying book, will talk about the wealth of fascinating design and skill that Ravilious, Bawden, Rowntree and other NW Essex artists put into mural paintings between 1930 and the 1980s. Many of these have been destroyed, but sketches and studies for them allow us to visualise what they were like.
