Contemporary art from Northern Ireland, exploring language, identity, and belonging.
This group exhibition showcases some of Northern Ireland's most exciting contemporary art practices. Featuring works created over the past six years in sculpture, installation, painting, photography, audio, and film, the exhibition highlights the region's artistic breadth and quality. Titled ‘mother tongue’, the diverse artworks evoke our relationship with language and our (dis)connection to land, family and belonging.
Expanding beyond the phrase's definition of a first language learned from birth, the exhibition explores communication methods that shape personal and collective identity, including written and spoken word, private and public creative expression and its relationships, and languages of the human and terrestrial body.
