A photographic exploration of Ashmolean’s historic collections
The third Ashmolean NOW exhibition series, in which contemporary artists create new work in response to the gallery’s historical collections. London-based photographer Bettina von Zwehl reimagines wonder and curiosity as critical tools for creative exploration.
Inspired by the Ashmolean’s 17th-century collections during her 2022–23 residency in Oxford, von Zwehl's Wunderkammer installation blends portraiture, silhouetted fragments, still-life, as well as everyday objects and elements from natural history. This unique photographic display reimagines the museum's diverse artefacts and art, reflecting her research into the collection’s diverse array of historical artefacts and works of art.
