Magical realist tapestries inspired by African-American queer experience.
The Holburne Museum presents the first UK exhibition by Diedrick Brackens, whose large-scale, vibrant, hand-crafted tapestries reference allegory and narrative through autobiography, African American and queer identity, and American history.
Brackens uses techniques from West African weaving, quilting from the American South and European tapestry-making to create both abstract and figurative works of art, often depicting moments of male tenderness.
