Textiles, sculptures and works on paper pay tribute to Brazilian music and dance.
Roda Viva is an exhibition of newly commissioned sculptural works by Brazilian artist Vanessa da Silva, drawing on her rich cultural heritage and the legacies of Brazilian art, music and dance.
The exhibition features textiles, sculptures and works on paper, exploring themes of identity, ancestry, joy, memory and the interconnectedness of past, present and future. Roda Viva translates to ‘wheel of life’, symbolising the movement and cycles of existence. This idea is reflected in da Silva’s exploration of the lives and histories passed through generations.
The title also references the roda de samba (circle of dance), a core practice in Brazilian culture, where music and movement form a powerful collective experience. This metaphor extends into the exhibition, where rhythm, colour and form challenge the boundaries of the space, creating a vibrant celebration of freedom and spiritual connection.
