Contemporary Irish artist grapples with the legacy of colonialism and identity.
The first UK solo exhibition of Irish artist Eimear Walshe, Mixed Messages from the Irish Republic, examines the complex relationship between love, grief and colonialism.
Drawing on forms of popular culture, Walshe’s work investigates how Ireland’s historical struggles over land have influenced contemporary issues of sexual politics, property ownership and power. Often playful and political, Walshe tackles urgent topics such as housing insecurity, national identity and activism.
The exhibition features new work Romantic Ireland (2024), alongside the multi-channel video and sculptural installation previously presented at the Irish Pavilion at the 2024 Venice Biennale of Art.
