The first major survey of Barbara Walker's pioneering works.
Being Here is the first major survey exhibition of British artist Barbara Walker, tracing the evolution of her figurative practice from the 1990s to today. Following a hugely successful run at The Whitworth in Manchester, the exhibition showcases almost 60 extraordinary works, including rarely seen early paintings of Walker’s family, friends and community in her home city of Birmingham.
It features new wallpaper commission, Soft Power and brings together works from across six major series, including her Turner Prize-nominated drawing series Burden of Proof (2022-23), which powerfully addresses the Windrush scandal.
