A textile exhibtion by Sue Bibby.
Sue Bibby designs and makes with fabric, stitch and her trusty Bernina sewing machine. Her first love is drawing, and her work begins with first-hand observation and sketches. She never ventures far without a sketch book and find gardens and wildlife sources of endless inspiration, stimulus and excitement.
Having assembled her ideas, spontaneous and precise free machine embroidery allows her to “draw” with the needle, fashioning texture, depth and relief. She uses hand stitches to add fine detail and reclaim old needlework techniques to use in contemporary ways. She collects scraps of vintage fabrics to fashion unique backgrounds for her embroidery, embedding the stories they tell into her work.
