Diverse collection

With something for every taste, the gallery houses an array of exhibits. Dutch Golden Age paintings by renowned artists like Jan Mynhertszoon Molenaer and Jacob van Ruisdael sit alongside pieces by Romanticism master Dante Gabriel Rossetti and landscape painter John Constable. There are also surprising finds, like works by Edward Lear, the creator of nonsense poetry, who was also a talented artist.

Local Gems

The Beecroft also dedicates significant space to British art, including works by the Great Bardfield Group, sculptor Jacob Epstein and local artist Alan Sorrell. The Thorpe Smith Collection showcases a fascinating glimpse into the history of Southend through paintings, drawings, and prints dating back to the early 1800s.

Temporary exhibitions and fashion

The gallery features a year-round program of temporary exhibitions, ensuring there's always something new to discover. These exhibits showcase a variety of mediums, including contemporary art and photography. The Beecroft Art Gallery is also home to Southend Museums' collection of historic costumes, offering a fascinating exploration of fashion through the ages.
