Housed in history
The Berwick Museum and Art Gallery is set within the historic Ravensdowne Barracks, the first purpose-built army barracks in England. Construction on the barracks, designed by famed architect Nicholas Hawksmoor, was completed in 1721. Today, the museum offers a chance to delve into both the rich military past of the barracks and the wider artistic and cultural heritage of the region.
Berwick Burrell Collection
Art enthusiasts will enjoy exploring the Berwick Burrell Collection, a treasure trove of over 300 fine and decorative artworks, oil paintings, watercolours, and drawings by masters including Degas, Boudin and Daubigny, as well as local talents including Northumberland artist Joseph Crawhall.
