Burton Constable Hall is an historic Elizabethan house with gardens designed by ‘Capability’ Brown, offering insight into the patronage of the Constable family.

Burton Constable Hall in East Yorkshire is one of the most complete examples of an English country house to survive, preserving its historical character alongside 18th and 19th-century embellishments. The residence boasts a rich history, having been the home of the Constable family for over 700 years.

Inside the house

Over 30 lavishly decorated rooms showcase the family's fascinating story. Admire exquisite furniture, captivating artwork, and a surprising collection of curiosities from the 18th century. Keep an eye out for intriguing objects that may pique your curiosity, from around the world, including fossils, natural history specimens and scientific instruments.

Explore Capability Brown's design

Beyond the grand halls, over 300 acres of stunning parkland await exploration. This picturesque landscape is the brainchild of Capability Brown, the renowned 18th-century landscape architect. Brown's signature style is evident in the rolling hills, tranquil lakes, and meandering pathways.

Family fun for all ages

The extensive grounds provide ample space for families to explore and have fun. Designated play areas keep younger visitors entertained, while designated trails lead you on a discovery tour of the park's hidden gems. Choose from a variety of walks and trails including the Wildlife Sculpture Trail to discover nine different sculptures of animals that can be found living on the parkland. Alternatively the Parkland Waymarker Trail invites you to uncover the hidden word from our by taking rubbings of each waymarker.

The Grounds, Stables Kitchen and Gift Shop are open daily from 10am to 4pm.

The Hall is now closed until Saturday 23rd March 2024.
