Merthyr Tydfil established itself as the 'Iron Capital of the World' in the 18th Century with its huge Iron-Works complexes. Cyfarthfa Castle Museum and Art Gallery is a popular attraction that overlooks the town, and offers a glimpse into the region's rich heritage and artistic legacy.

Step inside the museum, and you'll embark on a journey through Merthyr Tydfil's fascinating past. Explore exhibits that tell the story of the town's rise during the Industrial Revolution. The museum also sheds light on the lives of ordinary people who lived and worked in the town.
Art gallery
Complementing the historical exhibits is the castle's impressive art collection. Discover contemporary pieces and admire works by renowned Welsh and British artists, including Penry Williams and Harold Knight. Look out for Tea Table by Ruskin Spear, a captivating portrayal of domestic life.

The castle holds a rather unique claim to fame. It houses the world's first ever steam whistle, a crucial invention in the development of steam-powered machinery.
