A fine example of Irish Neoclassical architecture, Florence Court is a grand 18th-century house in Northern Ireland with stunning gardens.
Famed for its exquisite Rococo plasterwork and Irish furniture, the house is set in the foothills of the Cuilcagh Mountains. The extensive estate includes parkland, a walled garden, a sawmill, an ice house and a summer house, as well as the Florence Court Yew, reputed to be the parent of all Irish yew trees.
Family residence
Formerly the residence of the Earls of Enniskillen, it's now managed by the National Trust and boasts the title of one of the most beautiful Georgian houses in Ulster. Guided tours of the mansion explore the history of the Cole family and their staff who lived here for over 250 years.
Explore the grounds
Beyond the grand residence, Florence Court boasts sprawling grounds known as the demesne. Here you can wander through pleasure grounds and take in the dramatic mountain views of the Fermanagh countryside. A stroll through the historic walled garden is a must. This area features a native Irish apple orchard, alongside an early 19th-century water feature and the remains of an old icehouse used to store food in the days before refrigeration.
Outdoor family fun
Hire bikes (and helmets) and take the family on a gentle, or adventurous, cycle around the estate and woodland. Discover the den making area, and a natural play area with rope swings and slide. If it all gets a bit exhausting, you can catch your breath at the tearoom in the Stable Yard.
