Part of the Southbank Centre in London, the Hayward Gallery hosts contemporary art exhibitions and high-profile installations in and around a landmark Brutalist building.

In 1968, when the Hayward Gallery in London first opened, it filled a gap in the capital’s art scene. At the time, Tate and the National Gallery were unable to stage temporary exhibitions without relocating their permanent collection; by contrast, the Hayward Gallery offered a dedicated space for contemporary art.

Today, it hosts a broad spectrum of innovative contemporary art exhibitions and high-profile installations from leading international artists. It also runs an extensive programme of talks and events, all housed in an iconic brutalist building.
