Lydiard House is a grand Palladian mansion in Wiltshire, dating back to medieval times, set in 260 acres of landscaped parkland.
A striking Grade I listed building, in the heart of Lydiard Park on the western edge of Swindon, Lydiard House was transformed it into a grand Palladian house in the 1740s. In the mid 20th century, Swindon Borough Council bought the run down former home of the St. John family. Restoration efforts have ensured that Lydiard House continues to stand as a testament to its rich past and a place of beauty and enjoyment for visitors today.
State rooms and family treasures
Wander through the elegant State Rooms of Lydiard House and marvel at the opulent décor. Original family furnishings, portraits dating back to Elizabethan times, and intricate plasterwork adorn the walls. The house’s collection consists of over 2,500 objects from furniture, books, photographs, and archives to costume and fabric telling the story of the St John family (also known as the Viscounts Bolingbroke) and the workers who staffed Lydiard House and Park.

Explore beautiful parkland, encompassing 260 acres of rolling lawns, tranquil lakes, and woodlands. Take a stroll through the restored 18th-century walled garden, lined with fruit tress and a testament to horticultural practices of the past. Did you know?
Lydiard Park served as a large station hospital for the American 101st Airborne Division, in World War II and treated casualties from the D Day Landings.
