Museum in the Park

This Grade II-listed wool merchant's house is home to a collection that tells the fascinating story of the Stroud District’s rich and diverse history.

What to see

The museum’s collection consists of around 57,000 items, most with a connection to the local area. Over 4,000 of these objects are on display at Museum in the Park, from dinosaur bones to the patent drawings for the world's first lawnmower (invented in Stroud). The collection spans social history, geology, archaeology and more.

Explore the garden

Stroll through the contemporary Walled Garden, brought back to life in 2016 after 20 years of being dormant. Using this basic outline, the garden is designed to be accessible and offer a range of learning and events connected with the museum and collections.

Events and workshops

With a diverse collection and exciting events programme there is something for everyone. Try your hand at a workshop, attend a talk or enjoy a family explorer trail. Many of the rooms contain interactive displays and toys, and some even sport peep holes into the cabinets at a child friendly height.

Grab a coffee

In addition to the main displays in the mansion house, a modern extension houses a gift and coffee shop, alongside an art gallery showing a varied programme of exhibitions.
