National Museums Collection Centre

Edinburgh

National Museums Collection Centre in Edinburgh is a climate-controlled home to objects from Scotland's national collection not currently on public display.

Two new buildings provide state-of-the-art conservation laboratories and enhanced storage for the national collections. From whale skeletons and insects to motorbikes and high fashion, the Collection Centre holds millions of objects and specimens

The centre also serves as hub for cutting-edge research and innovation, training and teaching. The work carried out includes scientific analysis, conservation, and digitisation.

Visits are by appointment only, however you can book a guided tour which offers the chance to explore behind the scenes at the Collection Centre. Alternative arrangements may be made to view objects at one of National Museums Scotland's sites subject to the availability of staff to assist.
