North Lanarkshire Heritage Centre
With a National Art Pass you get
Explore the history of the Motherwell area from pre-history to the present day, at North Lanarkshire Heritage Centre in Scotland.
Visitors are invited to learn about an area of Scotland that developed around the steel industry in the 20th century, plus discover evidence of a brief Roman occupancy.
Climb the tower
The distinctive structure of the tower at the NLHC is a recognisable feature of the local landscape. Climb the tower and step through the history of the town via four levels exploring Stone Age settlers, the rapid growth of North Lanarkshire’s industries, social and political reform and modern day success stories from the sporting world. A viewing platform at the top of the tower gives visitors an unrivalled vista of the Clyde Valley.
Family history
Explore extensive historical archive collections spanning from the 15th century to the present day. Visitors who would like to research their local or family history can do so in the Local History Room.
Grab a postcard
