Picton Castle Gardens
With a National Art Pass you get
Explore acres of vibrant gardens and a rare 13th-century castle with elegant Georgian interiors at Picton Castle Gardens in picturesque Pembrokeshire.
Combining a unique architectural gem with sprawling gardens of historical significance, Picton Castle has a fascinating past. Built in the 13th century, it started as a typical medieval fortress. However, extensive renovations in the 18th century transformed it into a lavish Georgian stately home.
Architectural fusion
The castle was built in the 13th century by Sir John Wogan, and used by his descendants. While the exterior retains its imposing medieval aesthetic with four round towers, the interior showcases elegant Georgian additions, creating a luxurious and comfortable atmosphere. Explore the principal state rooms, the kitchens and medieval under croft complete with vaulted ceiling.
The 'Picton Renoir'
The original collection of art and antiques collected by the family over hundreds of years is on display in the castle, including a controversial Renoir masterpiece, whose authenticity has been debated.
A haven for horticultural enthusiasts
Designated as a Royal Horticultural Society Partner Garden, the grounds encompass a vibrant tapestry of styles. Explore the meticulously restored walled garden, wander through the exotic jungle garden, or see squirrels, birds and bumble-bees in the wildlife garden. You can even find a collection of vintage and antique lawnmowers.
Family fun
The whole family can enjoy seasonal activities from Welly Walks to puzzle days, or set out on the Fairy Door Trail or the maze all year round. There is also an adventure playground and jungle board walk. There are a choice of places to get refreshments, including the Spanish themed Maria’s Cafe and Restaurant.
