Explore the history of agriculture in Cambridgeshire at Ramsey Rural Museum, a charming hands-on museum packed with farm tools and bygones.

Right in the heart of the Huntingdonshire countryside, the volunteer run museum is part of a 10th-century Benedictine Abbey. The renovated 17th-century farm buildings house artefacts, machinery, and memorabilia that tell the stories of local farmers, tradespeople, and everyday life in Ramsey, from the 1800s to the early 2000s.

What to see

Explore over 70 themed displays showcasing the museum’s collection of agricultural objects, artefacts and items from local tradespeople. Highlights include a fully-equipped Victorian chemist shop, a traditional blacksmith's forge, and a collection of vintage farm machinery.

Soldiers and toy soldiers

Visit the Old Stable Block and you will find displays on the area’s military history and the armed services, including the local RAF station. There is also a Victorian schoolroom with a display of vintage toys, which forms part of the childhood collection.

Household items

A number of displays of bygone domestic items can be seen in the Old Stable Block, including photographic, and audio equipment, and Darlow’s Farm Cottage, a re-situated and restored 1930s building, which houses a recreated child’s bedroom from the 1940s.

Events and activities

A year-round events programme includes talks, rural fairs, heritage days and family activities, plus educational workshops, such as STEM in the Fens. You can also grab a cuppa in the charming Tea Room or enjoy a picnic in the picturesque outdoor area.
