Salford Museum and Art Gallery
Salford Museum and Art Gallery incorporates the Victorian Gallery and Lark Hill Place, an atmospheric recreation of a typical northern street during Victorian times.
Located in Peel Park, the museum houses several exhibition galleries showcasing a collection of artworks and artefacts that explore the city's rich heritage, alongside a temporary exhibition programme.
Victorian art
Using salon-style hanging, popular in the era, the Victorian Gallery displays the museum’s collection of artworks from the 19th century. Featured artists include Christian-Ludwig Bokelmann, John Charles Dollman and John Frederick Herring. The museum also houses a small collection of British Modern Art.
Lark Hill Place
Visit a Victorian street where it is always tea-time on a winter’s evening. The street reconstruction is made with original shop fronts and objects salvaged from the rebuilding of Salford in 1945. Shops include a toy shop, a general store, a music shop and the Blue Lion pub.
Pilkington Ceramics
The museum houses a social history collection reflecting the lives of people in Salford. This includes a selection of items of Pilkington’s Lancastrian Pottery made at the Clifton factory in Salford between 1889 to 2008. Appointments can be made to view the reserve collection and archive.
Fun for all ages
Join in the museum’s Craft Socials, talks and tours, or sign up for Life Drawing Lates, featuring a live model and different theme each month. Children can enjoy quizzes and drawing activities in the Let’s Explore Discovery Trail, or grab some sweet treats from Mr Tomlinson’s Victorian Sweet Shop.
