Housed in the actual birthplace of Samuel Johnson, the museum showcases a variety of exhibits and interactive displays that explore the childhood, education, and career of one of England's most influential literary figures.

Step inside the Grade I listed building and discover a world of period rooms, interactive exhibits, and personal artefacts that bring Johnson's story to life. Highlights include paintings, original documents, early and rare editions of Johnson's work, Johnson's armchair, tea set and portable writing desk.

For families, the museum offers a variety of engaging activities, including guided tours, workshops, and hands-on experiences. Children can dress up in period costumes, follow trails, and explore the museum's interactive exhibits. The museum also hosts special events throughout the year, such as author talks, book signings, and collaborations with Lichfield Literature Festival.
Did you know?
The house, which became a museum in 1901, was originally built for Johnson’s parents who ran their bookshop business on the ground floor. Today, the museum's bookshop continues to offer a wide selection of books related to Johnson, his contemporaries, and the history of Lichfield.
