The beautiful Victorian house located in Aigburth, Liverpool is now a museum and art gallery, showcasing the impressive collection of George Holt, a shipping-line owner who once lived there.
Victorian art collection
The house is home to Holt’s remarkable collection of paintings, including works by renowned artists such as Thomas Gainsborough, Joshua Reynolds, Edward Burne-Jones, JMW Turner, and John Everett Millais. This is one of the few surviving Victorian merchant art collections still in its original setting.

George’s daughter Emma Holt bequeathed Sudley House to the city of Liverpool when she died in 1944. The house is beautifully preserved, showcasing the grandeur and elegance of the Victorian era. Many of the original features remain, including intricate details, ornate furnishings, and stunning period decor.
