The Herbert Art Gallery & Museum is an award-winning venue in the cultural heart of Coventry, offering art and local history exhibitions, talks, events and workshops.
A vibrant centre for arts, culture, and local history, the Herbert encompasses an art gallery, a museum, a records archive, a learning centre, a media studio, and even creative arts facilities, all under one roof. Opened in 1960 the Herbert underwent a major refurbishment in 2008. Since then it has become a popular destination for locals and visitors alike.
Local history
The History Gallery explores three periods of Coventry's history in detail, Medieval, Victorian and the 20th century. Don’t miss Coventry in the 1970s up to present day, a place for adults to reminisce and for children to find out what a Space Hopper and a Rubik's cube are.
Lady Godiva
The Discover Godiva is a family-friendly interactive gallery exploring of the famous story of Lady Godiva, an iconic figure in Coventry's history, including artworks inspired by her.
Art gallery
The art gallery features both permanent and temporary exhibitions, showcasing a range of artistic styles and periods, and includes paintings that have been collected by the City over several hundred years. In the Long Gallery you will find sculptures from the collection.
Learn and create
The Herbert is also a place to actively engage with creativity. The learning centre offers a variety of workshops and events, while the media studio provides resources for budding filmmakers and digital artists.There are even art classes designed specifically for families, making the Herbert a fun and educational destination for all ages.
